The next section was repaired by the men of Tekoa, but their nobles would not put their shoulders to the work under their supervisors.

Some men from Tekoa repaired the next part of the wall. But their nobles refused to do any work at all. They didn’t pay any attention to the people who were in charge of the work.

And next to them the Tekoites repaired, but their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.

Next were the people from Tekoa, though their leaders refused to work with the construction supervisors.

Beside them the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not lift a finger to help their supervisors.

Moreover, next to him the Tekoites made repairs, but their nobles did not support the work of their masters.

“耶和華對我這樣說：‘你要用繩套和木頭做軛，套在自己的頸上。

我說：“這些人只是貧窮小民，為人愚昧；他們不曉得耶和華的道路，也不明白他們神的法則。我要親自去見那些權貴領袖，跟他們談談；因為他們曉得耶和華的道路，也明白他們神的法則。”誰知他們竟一起把軛折斷，掙脫繩索。

現在你們為甚麼試探神，把我們祖先和我們所不能負的軛，放在門徒的頸上呢？

我照著這一切話對猶大王西底家說：“你們要把頸項放在巴比倫王的軛下，服事他和他的人民，就可以生存。

我心裡柔和謙卑，你們應當負我的軛，向我學習，你們就必得著心靈的安息；

你要囑咐那些今世富有的人，叫他們不要心高氣傲，也不要寄望在浮動的財富上，卻要仰望那厚賜百物給我們享用的神。又要囑咐他們行善，在善事上富足，慷慨好施。

“萬軍之耶和華宣告說：‘當那日，我必從他們（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他們”應作“你”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）的頸項上折斷仇敵的軛，扯斷他們（按照《馬索拉文本》，“他們”應作“你”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）的繩套；他們必不再作外族人的奴隸。他們卻要事奉耶和華他們的神，和我為他們興起的大衛王。

弟兄們，你們想想，你們這些蒙召的，按人（“人”或譯：“世上的標準”、“世界的標準”）來看有智慧的不多，有權勢的不多，出身尊貴的也不多。

提哥亞的牧人阿摩司，在猶大王烏西雅和以色列王約阿施的兒子耶羅波安作王的日子，大地震前二年所見的異象，就是有關以色列的話，記在下面。

耶和華的使者說：‘你們要咒詛米羅斯，大大咒詛其中的居民；因為他們不來幫助耶和華，不帶領勇士幫助耶和華。’
