我為爾僕、晨夕祈禱、求爾施恩於眾僕、以色列族願爾垂顧、冀爾俯聞、我與室人、及以色列族多獲罪愆、今於爾前、自言己過、

僕今為主之諸僕以色列人、晝夜所祈禱於主前、又認以色列人及我並我父家於主前所犯之罪、求主以目垂顧、側耳垂聽僕之祈禱、

let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s family, have committed against you.

Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned.

While I was speaking, praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my petition before the LORD my God concerning the holy mountain of my God—

I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: Ah, Lord— the great and awe-inspiring God who keeps his gracious covenant with those who love him and keep his commands—

Now, my God, please let your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place.

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry for help.

Will not God grant justice to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay helping them?

For our ancestors were unfaithful and did what is evil in the sight of the LORD our God. They abandoned him, turned their faces away from the LORD’s dwelling place, and turned their backs on him.

Both we and our ancestors have sinned; we have done wrong and have acted wickedly.

Therefore, our God, hear the prayer and the petitions of your servant. Make your face shine on your desolate sanctuary for the Lord’s sake.Listen closely, my God, and hear. Open your eyes and see our desolations and the city that bears your name. For we are not presenting our petitions before you based on our righteous acts, but based on your abundant compassion.

Then I said: Woe is me for I am ruined because I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips, and because my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Armies.

While Ezra prayed and confessed, weeping and falling facedown before the house of God, an extremely large assembly of Israelite men, women, and children gathered around him. The people also wept bitterly.

Our ancestors sinned; they no longer exist, but we bear their punishment.

We too all previously lived among them in our fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath as the others were also.

LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night.

I complain and groan morning, noon, and night, and he hears my voice.

Lord, listen to my voice; let your ears be attentive to my cry for help.

Why should any living person complain, any man, because of the punishment for his sins?Let’s examine and probe our ways, and turn back to the LORD.Let’s lift up our hearts and our hands to God in heaven:“ We have sinned and rebelled; you have not forgiven.

All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.No one calls on your name, striving to take hold of you. For you have hidden your face from us and made us melt because of our iniquity.

and was a widow for eighty-four years. She did not leave the temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayers.

I thank God, whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did, when I constantly remember you in my prayers night and day.

Now you plan to reduce the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, to slavery. Are you not also guilty before the LORD your God?

Listen to your servant’s prayer and his petition, LORD my God, so that you may hear the cry and the prayer that your servant prays before you today,so that your eyes may watch over this temple night and day, toward the place where you said,“ My name will be there,” and so that you may hear the prayer that your servant prays toward this place.

And I said: My God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face toward you, my God, because our iniquities are higher than our heads and our guilt is as high as the heavens.Our guilt has been terrible from the days of our ancestors until the present. Because of our iniquities we have been handed over, along with our kings and priests, to the surrounding kings, and to the sword, captivity, plundering, and open shame, as it is today.

The widow who is truly in need and left all alone has put her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers;

Therefore, make a confession to the LORD, the God of your ancestors, and do his will. Separate yourselves from the surrounding peoples and your foreign wives.”
