You’ve given birth to a son!” But she did not respond or pay attention.She named the boy Ichabod, saying,“ The glory has departed from Israel,” referring to the capture of the ark of God and to the deaths of her father-in-law and her husband.“ The glory has departed from Israel,” she said,“ because the ark of God has been captured.”

I will gather those who have been driven from the appointed festivals; they will be a tribute from you and a reproach on her.

He answered them,“ I’m a Hebrew. I worship the LORD, the God of the heavens, who made the sea and the dry land.”

urging them to ask the God of the heavens for mercy concerning this mystery, so Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of Babylon’s wise men.

This is the reply they gave us: We are the servants of the God of the heavens and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.But since our ancestors angered the God of the heavens, he handed them over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.

When I heard this report, I tore my tunic and robe, pulled out some of the hair from my head and beard, and sat down devastated.
