今也牝獅之穴安在、穉獅之洞何存、昔者牝獅牡獅、俱游於斯、無人叱之、

今也牡獅之穴安在、壯獅養育養育或作攫食之處安在、昔者牡獅牝獅、以及穉獅、俱遊於斯、無人叱之、叱之或作敢惹

Where now is the lions’ den, the place where they fed their young, where the lion and lioness went, and the cubs, with nothing to fear?

Assyria is like a lion. Where is the lions’ den now? Where did they feed their cubs? Where did all the lions go? In their den they had nothing to fear.

Where is the lions’ den, the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and lioness went, where his cubs were, with none to disturb?

Where now is that great Nineveh, that den filled with young lions? It was a place where people— like lions and their cubs— walked freely and without fear.

Where is the lions’ lair, or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled, and the lion’s cub, with nothing to frighten them away?

Where is the den of the lions And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion, lioness, and lion’s cub went With nothing to disturb them?

Where is the dwelling of the lions, And the feeding place of the young lions, Where the lion walked, the lioness and lion’s cub, And no one made them afraid?

Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding- place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s whelp, and none made them afraid?

Where is the lions’ lair, or the feeding ground of the young lions, where the lion and lioness prowled, and the lion’s cub, with nothing to frighten them away?

Where[ is] the dwelling of the lions, and the feedingplace of the young lions, where the lion,[ even] the old lion, walked,[ and] the lion’s whelp, and none made[ them] afraid?

Where is the den of the lions, and the feeding place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion’s cubs, and no one made them afraid?

Their roar is like a lion’s; they roar like young lions. They growl and seize their prey; they drag it away and no one can come to the rescue.

Like lions his enemies roar victoriously over him; they raise their voices in triumph. They have laid his land waste; his cities have been burned down and deserted.

There is the roaring of the lion and the growling of the young lion, but the teeth of the young lions are broken.The mighty lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered.

“ The people of Israel are like scattered sheep which lions have chased away. First the king of Assyria devoured them. Now last of all King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has gnawed their bones.

They brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.“‘ When she realized that she waited in vain, her hope was lost. She took another of her cubs and made him a young lion.He walked about among the lions; he became a young lion. He learned to tear prey; he devoured people.He broke down their strongholds and devastated their cities. The land and everything in it was frightened at the sound of his roaring.The nations– the surrounding regions– attacked him. They threw their net over him; he was caught in their pit.

“ A lion coming up from the thick undergrowth along the Jordan scatters the sheep in the pastureland around it. So too I will chase the Babylonians off of their land. Then I will appoint over it whomever I choose. For there is no one like me. There is no one who can call me to account. There is no ruler that can stand up against me.

Woe to the city guilty of bloodshed! She is full of lies; she is filled with plunder; she has hoarded her spoil!

You are a lion’s cub, Judah, from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He crouches and lies down like a lion; like a lioness– who will rouse him?

Like a lion that has come up from its lair the one who destroys nations has set out from his home base. He is coming out to lay your land waste. Your cities will become ruins and lie uninhabited.

Her princes are as fierce as roaring lions; her rulers are as hungry as wolves in the desert, who completely devour their prey by morning.
