邑既空虛荒涼、人心消沮、兩膝相觸、腰間痛楚、面俱失色、

城邑空虛、變為荒土、人皆喪膽、兩股戰慄、腰骨殊痛、悚惶變色、

尼尼微邑全然空虛、變為荒邱、居民膽怯、兩膝戰慄、彼此相擊、諸腰痛楚、諸面變色、

She is pillaged, plundered, stripped! Hearts melt, knees give way, bodies tremble, every face grows pale.

Nineveh is destroyed, robbed and stripped! Hearts melt away in fear. Knees give way. Bodies tremble with fear. Everyone’s face turns pale.

Desolate! Desolation and ruin! Hearts melt and knees tremble; anguish is in all loins; all faces grow pale!

Soon the city is plundered, empty, and ruined. Hearts melt and knees shake. The people stand aghast, their faces pale and trembling.

Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, insides churn, every face grows pale!

She is emptied! Yes, she is desolate and waste! Hearts are melting and knees wobbling! Also trembling is in the entire body, And all their faces have become pale!

She is empty, desolate, and waste! The heart melts, and the knees shake; Much pain is in every side, And all their faces are drained of color.

Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, loins shake, every face grows pale!

Destruction, devastation, and desolation! Their hearts faint, their knees tremble, each stomach churns, each face turns pale!

She is empty, void, and waste. The heart melts, the knees knock together, their bodies and faces have grown pale.

I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

Then the king’s countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.

Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces[ shall be as] flames.

Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing[ of it]; I was dismayed at the seeing[ of it].

And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation,[ and] dry like a wilderness.And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it;[ their] voice shall sing in the windows; desolation[ shall be] in the thresholds: for he shall uncover the cedar work.This[ is] the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I[ am], and[ there is] none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss,[ and] wag his hand.

Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.

I beheld the earth, and, lo,[ it was] without form, and void; and the heavens, and they[ had] no light.I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.I beheld, and, lo,[ there was] no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place[ was] a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD,[ and] by his fierce anger.

It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none[ shall be] there, and all her princes shall be nothing.And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons,[ and] a court for owls.The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

Then shalt thou say, O LORD, thou hast spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast[ it] into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft[ he be], shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.

I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.

And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in[ their] pleasant palaces: and her time[ is] near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

And it shall come to pass,[ that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

And as soon as we had heard[ these things], our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he[ is] God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness[ was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
