Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

Jesus sat down and called for the 12 disciples to come to him. Then he said,“ Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last. They must be the servant of everyone.”

And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them,“ If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”

He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said,“ Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

Jesus called them together and said,“ You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (niv)

Jesus called them together and said,“ You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (niv)

But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you,‘ Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests.For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (niv)

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:“ God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” (niv)

But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. (niv)

The greatest among you will be your servant. (niv)

“ I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” (niv)

Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. (niv)

Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’” (niv)
