You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.Then Jesus said to them,“ Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”And they reasoned among themselves, saying,“ It is because we have taken no bread.”But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them,“ O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up?Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up?How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?— but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

And as He said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to assail Him vehemently, and to cross-examine Him about many things,lying in wait for Him, and seeking to catch Him in something He might say, that they might accuse Him.

But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,

Then He also said to the multitudes,“ Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say,‘ A shower is coming’; and so it is.And when you see the south wind blow, you say,‘ There will be hot weather’; and there is.Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?“ Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right?

And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying,“ Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”

Therefore they said to Him,“ What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?

Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said,“ Give us water, that we may drink.” So Moses said to them,“ Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?”

And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples,“ How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?”

Then Jesus said to him,“ Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

The same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him and asked Him,

Shall we pay, or shall we not pay?” But He, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them,“ Why do you test Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see it.”

Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?

Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said,“ By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”
