耶稣知道了，就说：“你们为什么因为没有饼就议论呢？你们还不领悟，还不明白吗？你们的心还是愚顽吗？你们有眼睛，看不见吗？有耳朵，听不到吗？也不记得吗？我擘开那五个饼分给五千人，你们收拾的碎屑装满了多少个篮子呢？”他们说：“十二个。”“又擘开那七个饼分给四千人，你们收拾的碎屑装满了多少个筐子呢？”他们说：“七个。”耶稣说：“你们还不明白吗？”

〔后来十一使徒坐席的时候，耶稣向他们显现，责备他们不信，心里刚硬，因为他们不信那些在他复活以后看见他的人。

耶和华啊，你为何使我们偏离你的道，使我们心里刚硬、不敬畏你呢？求你为你的仆人，为你产业的支派而回转。

耶稣怒目环视他们，因他们的心刚硬而忧伤，就对那人说：“伸出手来！”他把手一伸，手就复原了。

耶稣对他们说：“无知的人哪，先知所说的一切话，你们的心信得太迟钝了。

耶稣对他们说：“你们也是这样不明白吗？难道你们不了解，凡从外面进去的不能玷污人吗？

你们还不明白吗？不记得那五个饼分给五千人，你们收拾了多少篮子的碎屑吗？也不记得那七个饼分给四千人，你们又收拾了多少筐子的碎屑吗？我对你们说‘要防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵’，这话不是指着饼说的，你们怎么不明白呢？”

那又怎么说呢？以色列人所寻求的，他们没有得着。但是蒙拣选的人得着了，其余的人却成了顽梗不化的。
