And do you not remember?When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of leftovers did you collect?”“ Twelve,” they told him.“ When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did you collect?”“ Seven,” they said.And he said to them,“ Don’t you understand yet?”

Later he appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw him after he had risen.

Why, LORD, do you make us stray from your ways? You harden our hearts so we do not fear you. Return, because of your servants, the tribes of your heritage.

After looking around at them with anger, he was grieved at the hardness of their hearts and told the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

He said to them,“ How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken!

He said to them,“ Are you also as lacking in understanding? Don’t you realize that nothing going into a person from the outside can defile him?

Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you collected?Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you collected?Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you,‘ Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?”

What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for, but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,
