有一个会堂主管，名叫叶鲁，也来了，一见到耶稣，就俯伏在他脚前，

万军之耶和华如此说：“你们要考虑，将唱哀歌的妇女召来，差人召善哭的妇女前来，叫她们速速为我们举哀，使我们泪眼汪汪，使我们的眼皮涌出泪水。因为有哀声从锡安传来：‘我们竟然败落！我们何等惭愧！我们撇下土地，人拆毁了我们的房屋。’”妇女们哪，当听耶和华的话，领受他口中的言语；当教导你们的女儿举哀，各人教导女伴唱哀歌。

耶稣到了会堂主管的家里，看见吹鼓手和乱哄哄的一群人，就说：“退去吧！这女孩不是死了，而是睡着了。”他们就嘲笑他。

彼得就起身和他们同去。他到了，就有人领他上楼。众寡妇都站在彼得旁边哭，拿多加与她们同在时所做的内衣外衣给他看。

‘我们为你们吹笛，你们不跳舞；我们唱哀歌，你们不捶胸。’

众人都在为这女孩哀哭捶胸。耶稣说：“不要哭，她不是死了，是睡着了。”他们知道她已经死了，就嘲笑耶稣。
