耶穌上了船，門徒跟着他。海裏忽然起了猛烈的風暴，以致船幾乎被波浪淹沒，耶穌卻睡着了。

看哪，有狂風從曠野颳來，襲擊房屋的四角，房屋倒塌在年輕人身上，他們就都死了；惟有我一人逃脫，來報信給你。」

過了不久，有一股叫「友拉革羅」的東北巨風從島上撲來，船被風抓住，無法頂風航行，我們只好任它漂流。我們貼着一個叫高大的小島的背風岸急航，好不容易才保住了救生艇。既然把救生艇拉上來，他們就用纜索捆綁船底，又恐怕在賽耳底淺灘上擱淺，就落了篷，任船漂流。我們被風浪逼得很急，第二天眾人就把貨物拋在海裏。第三天，他們又親手把船上的器具拋棄了。許多天都沒有看到太陽和星辰，又有狂風大浪催逼，我們獲救的指望都放棄了。

有一天，耶穌和門徒上了船，他對門徒說：「我們渡到湖的對岸去吧。」他們就開了船。船行的時候，耶穌睡着了。湖上忽然起了狂風，船將灌滿了水，很危險。

耶和華在海上颳起大風，海就狂風大作，船幾乎破裂。

那些搭船出海，在大水中做生意的，他們看見耶和華的作為，並他在深海中的奇事。他一出令，狂風捲起，波浪翻騰。他們上到天空，下到海底，他們的心因患難而消沉。他們搖搖晃晃，東倒西歪，好像醉酒的人，他們的智慧無法可施。於是他們在急難中哀求耶和華，他就領他們脫離禍患。他使狂風止息，波浪平靜，既平靜了，他們就歡喜，他就領他們到想要去的海港。但願人因耶和華的慈愛和他向人所做的奇事都稱謝他。

耶和華對撒但說：「看哪，凡他所有的都在你手中；只是不可伸手加害於他。」於是撒但從耶和華面前退出去。

被棍打了三次，被石頭打了一次，遭海難三次，一晝一夜在深海裏掙扎。

但碰到兩水夾流的地方，就擱了淺，船頭膠住不動，船尾被浪的猛力衝壞了。
