When some of those standing there heard this, they said,“ See, he’s calling for Elijah.”

旁立者有人聞之曰、彼呼以利亞也、

旁立數人聞之、曰、彼呼以利亞也、

旁立者聞之、有曰、彼呼以利亞也、

旁立者聞之、以為呼伊理藹也。

When some of those standing near heard this, they said,“ Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”

Some of those standing nearby heard Jesus cry out. They said,“ Listen! He’s calling for Elijah.”

And some of the bystanders hearing it said,“ Behold, he is calling Elijah.”

Some of the bystanders misunderstood and thought he was calling for the prophet Elijah.

And when some of the bystanders heard Him, they began saying,“ Look! He is calling for Elijah!”

Some of those who stood by, when they heard that, said,“ Look, He is calling for Elijah!”

And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elijah.

When some of those standing there heard this, they said,“ Look, He’s calling for Elijah!”

And some of them that stood by, when they heard[ it], said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

When some of the bystanders heard it they said,“ Listen, he is calling for Elijah!”

Some of those who stood by, when they heard it, said,“ Behold, he is calling Elijah.”

When some of those standing there heard this, they said,“ He’s calling for Elijah.”Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge, filled it with sour wine, put it on a stick, and offered him a drink.But the rest said,“ Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

Then they asked him,“ Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”“ Elijah does come first and restores all things,” he replied.“ Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did whatever they pleased to him, just as it is written about him.”

“ Elijah is coming and will restore everything,” he replied.“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that he had spoken to them about John the Baptist.
