有憾之者曰、靡費此膏何為耶、

有人憾之曰、惡用是糜費為、

有數人不悅、曰、何靡費此膏乎、

坐中有人不悅曰：『胡此浪費！

Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another,“ Why this waste of perfume?

Some of the people there became angry. They said to one another,“ Why waste this perfume?

There were some who said to themselves indignantly,“ Why was the ointment wasted like that?

Some of those at the table were indignant.“ Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked.

But some were expressing indignation to one another:“ Why has this perfume been wasted?

“ But you are profaning it by saying that the table of the Lord is common and its offerings despicable.You also say,‘ How tiresome it is.’ You turn up your nose at it,” says the LORD who rules over all,“ and instead bring what is stolen, lame, or sick. You bring these things for an offering! Should I accept this from you?” asks the LORD.

When you make a vow to God, do not delay in paying it. For God takes no pleasure in fools: Pay what you vow!It is better for you not to vow than to vow and not pay it.Do not let your mouth cause you to sin, and do not tell the priest,“ It was a mistake!” Why make God angry at you so that he would destroy the work of your hands?”Just as there is futility in many dreams, so also in many words. Therefore, fear God!If you see the extortion of the poor, or the perversion of justice and fairness in the government, do not be astonished by the matter. For the high official is watched by a higher official, and there are higher ones over them!

Then I considered all the skillful work that is done: Surely it is nothing more than competition between one person and another. This also is profitless– like chasing the wind.
