Then Moses took the blood from the basins and splattered it over the people, declaring,“ Look, this blood confirms the covenant the Lord has made with you in giving you these instructions.”

Because of the covenant I made with you, sealed with blood, I will free your prisoners from death in a waterless dungeon.

After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands.And they were shouting with a great roar,“ Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!”And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God.They sang,“ Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen.”Then one of the twenty four elders asked me,“ Who are these who are clothed in white? Where did they come from?”And I said to him,“ Sir, you are the one who knows.” Then he said to me,“ These are the ones who died in the great tribulation. They have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb and made them white.“ That is why they stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his Temple. And he who sits on the throne will give them shelter.They will never again be hungry or thirsty; they will never be scorched by the heat of the sun.For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying,“ This cup is the new covenant between God and his people— an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink it.”

When we bless the cup at the Lord’s Table, aren’t we sharing in the blood of Christ? And when we break the bread, aren’t we sharing in the body of Christ?

And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.And they sang a new song with these words:“ You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.”

That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.Now when someone leaves a will, it is necessary to prove that the person who made it is dead.The will goes into effect only after the person’s death. While the person who made it is still alive, the will cannot be put into effect.That is why even the first covenant was put into effect with the blood of an animal.For after Moses had read each of God’s commandments to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, along with water, and sprinkled both the book of God’s law and all the people, using hyssop branches and scarlet wool.Then he said,“ This blood confirms the covenant God has made with you.”And in the same way, he sprinkled blood on the Tabernacle and on everything used for worship.In fact, according to the law of Moses, nearly everything was purified with blood. For without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness.That is why the Tabernacle and everything in it, which were copies of things in heaven, had to be purified by the blood of animals. But the real things in heaven had to be purified with far better sacrifices than the blood of animals.

Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

So Jesus said again,“ I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.
