他向眾人講話，沒有不用比喻的。可是，他卻單獨給自己的門徒們解釋一切。

當耶穌和門徒們臨近耶路撒冷，來到橄欖山附近的伯法其的時候，耶穌派了兩個門徒，

門徒們上前來，問耶穌：「你對他們講話，為什麼用比喻呢？」

耶穌從加利利湖邊經過，看見西門和他弟弟安得烈，正在湖裡撒網；他們本來是漁夫。耶穌就對他們說：「來跟從我！我將要使你們成為得人的漁夫。」他們立刻捨棄漁網，跟從了耶穌。稍往前走，耶穌看見西庇太的兒子雅各和他弟弟約翰。他們正在船上修補漁網。

然後他除了彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰以外，不准別的人跟著。

過了六天，耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰，領他們悄悄地上了一座高山。

耶穌在橄欖山上坐著，門徒們悄悄地前來問他：「請告訴我們，這些事什麼時候會發生呢？你的來臨和這世代的終結會有什麼預兆呢？」

聽見了約翰的話而跟從耶穌的兩個人中，有一個是西門彼得的弟弟安得烈。安得烈先去找自己的哥哥西門，對他說：「我們找到了彌賽亞。」——「彌賽亞」翻譯出來就是「基督」。

然後，耶穌離開了人群，進了屋子。他的門徒們上前來，說：「請給我們解釋一下田裡稗子的比喻。」

過了六天，耶穌只帶著彼得、雅各、約翰，領他們悄悄地上了一座高山。在他們面前，耶穌變了形像。

這時候，西庇太的兒子雅各和約翰來到耶穌面前，說：「老師，如果我們向你求什麼，希望你為我們成全。」

他帶了彼得、雅各和約翰一起去。這時候，他開始憂懼起來，極其難過，
