If the Lord had not cut those days short, no one would be saved. But he cut those days short for the sake of the elect, whom he chose.

若不是主减少那日子，凡有血气的，总没有一个得救的；只是为主的选民，他将那日子减少了。

主若不減其時日、則血氣之倫、將無遺孑！惟為選民之故、主必減之耳。

The LORD says this:“ As the new wine is found in a bunch of grapes, and one says,‘ Don’t destroy it, for there’s some good in it,’ so I will act because of my servants and not destroy them all.I will produce descendants from Jacob, and heirs to my mountains from Judah; my chosen ones will possess it, and my servants will dwell there.

Unless those days were cut short, no one would be saved. But those days will be cut short because of the elect.

Regarding the gospel, they are enemies for your advantage, but regarding election, they are loved because of the patriarchs,since God’s gracious gifts and calling are irrevocable.As you once disobeyed God but now have received mercy through their disobedience,so they too have now disobeyed, resulting in mercy to you, so that they also may now receive mercy.For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may have mercy on all.

In the whole land— this is the LORD’s declaration— two-thirds will be cut off and die, but a third will be left in it.I will put this third through the fire; I will refine them as silver is refined and test them as gold is tested. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say,‘ They are my people,’ and they will say,‘ The LORD is our God.’”

Though a tenth will remain in the land, it will be burned again. Like the terebinth or the oak that leaves a stump when felled, the holy seed is the stump.

And even they, if they do not remain in unbelief, will be grafted in, because God has the power to graft them in again.For if you were cut off from your native wild olive tree and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these— the natural branches— be grafted into their own olive tree?

In the same way, then, there is also at the present time a remnant chosen by grace.Now if by grace, then it is not by works; otherwise grace ceases to be grace.What then? Israel did not find what it was looking for, but the elect did find it. The rest were hardened,
