“ No one shall seize a handmill or an upper millstone as a pledge for a loan, since he would be seizing the debtor’s means of life as a pledge.

All the officers and all the people rejoiced, and they brought in their contribution and dropped it into the chest until they had finished.It happened that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officer by the Levites, and they saw that the money was substantial, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer would come and empty the chest, and pick it up and return it to its place. They did this daily and collected a large amount of money.The king and Jehoiada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of the Lord; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of the Lord, and also workers in iron and bronze to repair the house of the Lord.So the workmen labored, and the repair work progressed in their hands, and they restored the house of God according to its specifications and strengthened it.When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada; and it was made into utensils for the house of the Lord, utensils for the service and the burnt offerings, and pans and utensils of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the Lord continually, all the days of Jehoiada.

Josiah contributed to the lay people, to all who were present, flocks of lambs and young goats, all for the Passover offerings, numbering thirty thousand, plus three thousand bulls; these were from the king’s property.His officers also contributed a voluntary offering to the people, the priests, and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the officials of the house of God, gave the priests 2,600 from the flocks and three hundred bulls, for the Passover offerings.

For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given to You.For we are strangers before You, and temporary residents, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and everything is Yours.Since I know, my God, that You put the heart to the test and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You.

but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’

But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked an opportunity to act.Not that I speak from need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.I know how to get along with little, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my difficulty.You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone;for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs.Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek the profit which increases to your account.
