“我朝见耶和华，在至高神面前跪拜，当献上什么呢？难道献一岁的牛犊为燔祭来朝见他吗？耶和华岂喜悦千千的公羊，或是万万的油河吗？我岂可为自己的过犯献我的长子，为自己的罪恶献我所亲生的吗？”世人哪，耶和华已指示你何为善。他向你所要的是什么呢？只要你行公义，好怜悯，存谦卑的心与你的神同行。

我喜爱慈爱，不喜爱祭物；喜爱人认识神，胜于燔祭。

撒母耳说：“耶和华喜爱燔祭和祭物，岂如喜爱人听从他的话呢？看哪，听命胜于献祭，顺从胜于公羊的脂肪。

‘我喜爱怜悯，不喜爱祭祀。’你们若明白这话的意思，就不将无罪的当作有罪了。

经上说：‘我喜爱怜悯，不喜爱祭祀。’这句话的意思，你们去揣摩。我不是来召义人，而是召罪人。”

我并不因你的祭物责备你；你的燔祭常在我面前。我不从你家中取公牛，也不从你圈内取公山羊；因为，林中的百兽是我的，千山的牲畜也是我的。山中的飞鸟，我都知道，田野的走兽也都属我。“我若是饥饿，不用告诉你，因为世界和其中所充满的都是我的。我岂吃公牛的肉呢？我岂喝公山羊的血呢？你们要以感谢为祭献给神，又要向至高者还你的愿，并要在患难之日求告我，我必搭救你，你也要荣耀我。”

我若能说人间的方言，甚至天使的语言，却没有爱，我就成为鸣的锣、响的钹一般。我若有先知讲道的能力，也明白各样的奥秘，各样的知识，而且有齐备的信心，使我能够移山，却没有爱，我就算不了什么。我若将所有的财产救济穷人，又牺牲自己的身体让人夸赞，却没有爱，仍然对我无益。

耶和华说：“你们许多的祭物于我何益呢？公绵羊的燔祭和肥畜的油脂，我已经腻烦了；公牛、羔羊、公山羊的血，我都不喜悦。“你们来朝见我，谁向你们的手要求这些，使你们践踏我的院宇呢？不要再献无谓的供物了，香是我所憎恶的。我不能容忍行恶又守严肃会：初一、安息日和召集的大会。你们的初一和节期，我心里恨恶，它们成了我的重担，担当这些，令我厌烦。你们举手祷告，我必遮眼不看，就算你们多多祈祷，我也不听；你们的手沾满了血。你们要洗涤、自洁，从我眼前除掉恶行；要停止作恶，学习行善，寻求公平，帮助受欺压的，替孤儿伸冤，为寡妇辩护。”

凡以感谢献祭的就是荣耀我；那按正路而行的，我必使他得着神的救恩。”

这岂是我所要的禁食，为人所用以刻苦己心的日子吗？我难道只是叫人如芦苇般低头，铺上麻布和灰烬吗？你能称此为禁食，为耶和华所悦纳的日子吗？我所要的禁食，岂不是要你松开凶恶的绳，解开轭上的索，使被欺压的得自由，折断一切的轭吗？岂不是要你把食物分给饥饿的人，将流浪的穷人接到家中，见赤身的给他衣服遮体，而不隐藏自己避开你的骨肉吗？

行公义和公平比献祭更蒙耶和华悦纳。

“我厌恶你们的节期，也不喜悦你们的严肃会。你们虽然向我献燔祭和素祭，我却不悦纳，也不看你们用肥畜献的平安祭。要使你们歌唱的声音远离我，因为我不听你们琴瑟的乐曲。惟愿公平如大水滚滚，公义如江河滔滔。

万军之耶和华—以色列的神如此说：“你们要将燔祭加在你们的祭物上，又要吃肉；因为我将你们祖先从埃及地领出来的那日，燔祭和祭物的事我并没有提说，也没有吩咐他们。我只吩咐他们这一件事说：‘你们当听从我的话，我就作你们的神，你们也作我的子民。你们行走我所吩咐的一切道路，就可以得福。’

以上说：“祭物和礼物，以及燔祭和赎罪祭，不是你所要的，也不是你喜欢的。”这都是按着律法献的。
