When they came they said to him,“ Teacher, we know that you are truthful and do not court anyone’s favor, because you show no partiality but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

既至、謂之曰、夫子、我知爾乃誠者、不徇乎人、蓋不以貌取人、而誠以上帝道訓人者也、納稅於該撒宜否、我儕納乎否乎、

乃就耶穌曰、先生、我知爾乃真者、不偏視人、不以貌取人、而以誠傳上帝道者也、納稅該撒宜否、

就耶穌曰、師、我儕知爾乃真者、不顧人議、不以貌取人、乃以真傳天主道者、納稅於該撒、宜否、納乎、抑不納乎、

乃曰：『夫子、吾知爾正直無私、不徇人情、惟天主之道是傳。敢問納稅於凱撒、理乎？

They came to him and said,“ Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not?

They came to him and said,“ Teacher, we know that you are a man of honor. You don’t let other people tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are. But you teach the way of God truthfully. Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not?

And they came and said to him,“ Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?”

“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully. Now tell us— is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?

When they came, they said to him,“ Teacher, we know you are truthful and don’t care what anyone thinks, nor do you show partiality but teach the way of God truthfully. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”

They came and* said to Him,“ Teacher, we know that You are truthful and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone, but You teach the way of God in truth. Is it permissible to pay a poll tax to Caesar, or not?

When they had come, they said to Him,“ Teacher, we know that You are true, and care about no one; for You do not regard the person of men, but teach the way of God in truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

And when they were come, they say unto him, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and carest not for any one; for thou regardest not the person of men, but of a truth teachest the way of God: Is it lawful to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?

When they came, they said to Him,“ Teacher, we know You are truthful and defer to no one, for You don’t show partiality but teach truthfully the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?

And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

When they had come, they asked him,“ Teacher, we know that you are honest, and don’t defer to anyone; for you aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

But the sovereign LORD helps me, so I am not humiliated. For that reason I am steadfastly resolved; I know I will not be put to shame.The one who vindicates me is close by. Who dares to argue with me? Let us confront each other! Who is my accuser? Let him challenge me!Look, the sovereign LORD helps me. Who dares to condemn me? Look, all of them will wear out like clothes; a moth will eat away at them.

But you, son of man, do not fear them, and do not fear their words– even though briers and thorns surround you and you live among scorpions– do not fear their words and do not be terrified of the looks they give you, for they are a rebellious house!You must speak my words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious.

Its abundant produce goes to the kings you have placed over us due to our sins. They rule over our bodies and our livestock as they see fit, and we are in great distress!

They began to accuse him, saying,“ We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar and claiming that he himself is Christ, a king.”

For we are not like so many others, hucksters who peddle the word of God for profit, but we are speaking in Christ before God as persons of sincerity, as persons sent from God.

But from those who were influential( whatever they were makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism between people)– those influential leaders added nothing to my message.

People lie to one another; they flatter and deceive.May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts!They say,“ We speak persuasively; we know how to flatter and boast. Who is our master?”

I said,“ O LORD, rescue me from those who lie with their lips and those who deceive with their tongue.

They said to him,“ Please grant our request and pray to the LORD your God for all those of us who are still left alive here. For, as you yourself can see, there are only a few of us left out of the many there were before.Pray that the LORD your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.”

Am I now trying to gain the approval of people, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ!

The person who speaks on his own authority desires to receive honor for himself; the one who desires the honor of the one who sent him is a man of integrity, and there is no unrighteousness in him.

but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we declare it, not to please people but God, who examines our hearts.

When Judas arrived, he went up to Jesus immediately and said,“ Rabbi!” and kissed him.

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he had clearly done wrong.Until certain people came from James, he had been eating with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he stopped doing this and separated himself because he was afraid of those who were pro- circumcision.And the rest of the Jews also joined with him in this hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was led astray with them by their hypocrisy.But when I saw that they were not behaving consistently with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all,“ If you, although you are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you try to force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, but we are well known to God, and I hope we are well known to your consciences too.

You are making a fatal mistake. For you sent me to the LORD your God and asked me,‘ Pray to the LORD our God for us. Tell us what the LORD our God says and we will do it.’

For if I make you sad, who would be left to make me glad but the one I caused to be sad?

Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

But Micaiah said,“ As certainly as the LORD lives, I will say what my God tells me to say!”

You must not pervert justice or show favor. Do not take a bribe, for bribes blind the eyes of the wise and distort the words of the righteous.

But I am full of the courage that the LORD’s Spirit gives, and have a strong commitment to justice. This enables me to confront Jacob with its rebellion, and Israel with its sin.

Respect the LORD and make careful decisions, for the LORD our God disapproves of injustice, partiality, and bribery.”

He said,“ Yes.” When Peter came into the house, Jesus spoke to him first,“ What do you think, Simon? From whom do earthly kings collect tolls or taxes– from their sons or from foreigners?”After he said,“ From foreigners,” Jesus said to him,“ Then the sons are free.But so that we don’t offend them, go to the lake and throw out a hook. Take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth, you will find a four drachma coin. Take that and give it to them for me and you.”

Is it right for us to pay the tribute tax to Caesar or not?”

Like a coating of glaze over earthenware are fervent lips with an evil heart.The one who hates others disguises it with his lips, but he stores up deceit within him.When he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations within him.Though his hatred may be concealed by deceit, his evil will be uncovered in the assembly.

For this reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants devoted to governing.

So then from now on we acknowledge no one from an outward human point of view. Even though we have known Christ from such a human point of view, now we do not know him in that way any longer.

His words are as smooth as butter, but he harbors animosity in his heart. His words seem softer than oil, but they are really like sharp swords.

He said to his father and mother,“ I have not seen him,” and he did not acknowledge his own brothers or know his own children, for they kept your word, and guarded your covenant.They will teach Jacob your ordinances and Israel your law; they will offer incense as a pleasant odor, and a whole offering on your altar.

Now let the king be aware that the Jews who came up to us from you have gone to Jerusalem. They are rebuilding that rebellious and odious city. They are completing its walls and repairing its foundations.Let the king also be aware that if this city is built and its walls are completed, no more tax, custom, or toll will be paid, and the royal treasury will suffer loss.

“ You must not follow a crowd in doing evil things; in a lawsuit you must not offer testimony that agrees with a crowd so as to pervert justice,and you must not show partiality to a poor man in his lawsuit.“ If you encounter your enemy’s ox or donkey wandering off, you must by all means return it to him.If you see the donkey of someone who hates you fallen under its load, you must not ignore him, but be sure to help him with it.“ You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.

Because of this, the LORD said,“ You must repent of such words and thoughts! If you do, I will restore you to the privilege of serving me. If you say what is worthwhile instead of what is worthless, I will again allow you to be my spokesman. They must become as you have been. You must not become like them.I will make you as strong as a wall to these people, a fortified wall of bronze. They will attack you, but they will not be able to overcome you. For I will be with you to rescue you and deliver you,” says the LORD.“ I will deliver you from the power of the wicked. I will free you from the clutches of violent people.”

Therefore, since we have this ministry, just as God has shown us mercy, we do not become discouraged.
