耶穌進了殿院，正教訓人的時候，祭司長和民間的長老們上他跟前來，說：『你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？誰給你這權柄呢？』耶穌回答他們說：『我、也要問你們一件事；你們若把那事告訴我，我就告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事：約翰的洗禮是從哪裏來的？是由於天呢？還是由於人呢？』他們就彼此議論說：『我們若說「由於天」呢，他就會對我們說：「那你們為甚麼不信他？」若說「由於人」呢，我們又怕民眾，因為眾人都以約翰為神言人。』於是回答耶穌說：『我們不知道。』耶穌也就對他們說：『我、也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事。』

這些日子有一天，耶穌在殿院裏教訓人民、傳福音的時候、祭司長和經學士同長老上前來，對他說：『告訴我們，你仗着甚麼權柄作這些事啊？給你這權柄的是誰呢？』耶穌回答他們說：『我、也要問你們一件事：告訴我，約翰的洗禮是由於天呢？還是由於人？』他們就彼此商議說：『我們若說「由於天」，他就會說你們為甚麼不信他？若說「由於人」呢，眾民就會用石頭打死我們；因為他們都確信約翰是神言人。』於是回答說、不知道從哪裏來的。耶穌對他們說：『我、也不告訴你們我仗着甚麼權柄作這些事。』

希律和本丟彼拉多、同外國人和以色列眾族之民、真地在這城裏聚集，攻打你所膏立的聖僕耶穌，要作你手和你計畫所豫定必成的一切事。

到第二天、民間的議員、長老和經學士、就在耶路撒冷聚集。大祭司亞拿、和該亞法、約拿單、亞力山大、以及所有屬於大祭司家族的人、都在座。他們叫使徒站在當中，就查問說：『你們用甚麼能力、奉甚麼名、作這件事呢？』那時彼得、充滿聖靈、對他們說：

過兩天就是逾越節和除酵節了；祭司長和經學士直想法子要怎樣用詭詐抓住耶穌，來殺他。

耶穌回答他說：『我從來是坦然公開地向世人講話；我常常在會堂在殿裏、眾猶太人聚集的地方、教訓人，並沒有在隱密中講甚麼呀。

列國為甚麼彼此串通？萬族之民為甚麼謀算不能成功的事呢？地上君王列陣站着，眾人君一同陰謀，要敵擋永恆主，敵擋他所膏立的，說：『我們來掙開他們的捆綁，來脫掉他們的繩索吧。』那坐在天上的必冷笑；永恆主必嗤笑他們。那時他必氣忿忿責備他們，必發烈怒使他們驚惶；傳諭旨說：

耶穌在所羅門廊子底下走着走着。

『看吧，我將要差遣我的使者在我前面豫備道路；你們所尋求的主必忽然進入他的殿堂；你們所愛慕的、盟約的使者、看哪，他快來了！萬軍之永恆主說。
