那时，我必提灯搜查耶路撒冷，惩罚那些在罪中陶然自得的人（“在罪中陶然自得”直译是“沉淀在酒渣上”）。这些人心里说：‘耶和华必不赐福，也不降祸。’

耶稣走近耶路撒冷的时候，看见了城，就为城哀哭，说：“巴不得你在这日子，知道关于你平安的事，但现在这事在你眼前是隐藏的。日子将到，你的仇敌必筑垒攻击你，周围环绕你，四面困住你，要摧毁你和你里面的儿女，没有一块石头留在另一块石头上面，因为你不知道那眷顾你的时期。”耶稣进了圣殿，就赶走作买卖的人，

万军之耶和华说：“看哪！我派我的使者，在我前面预备道路；你们所寻求的主，必忽然进入他的殿；你们所爱慕立约的使者，就要来到。”
