“ You don’t know what you’re asking for,” Jesus said.“ Can you drink the cup of suffering I drink? Or can you go through the baptism of suffering I must go through?”

耶稣就说：“你们不知道自己在求什么。我所喝的杯，你们能喝吗？我所受的洗礼，你们能受吗？”

耶穌說：「你們不知道所求的是甚麼。我所喝的杯，你們能喝嗎？我所受的洗，你們能受嗎？」

耶穌對他們說：「你們不知道所求的是甚麼。我所喝的杯，你們能喝嗎？我所受的洗，你們能受嗎？」

耶穌對他們說：『你們所求的、你們不曉得。我、所喝的杯，你們能喝麼？我、所受的洗，你們能受麼？』

耶穌就說：「你們不知道自己在求什麼。我所喝的杯，你們能喝嗎？我所受的洗禮，你們能受嗎？」

“ You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said.“ Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

Jesus said to them,“ You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”

But Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?”

Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

But Jesus said to them,“ You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”

But Jesus said to them,“ You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink? or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

But Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?

But Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I experience?”

But Jesus said to them,“ You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?”

But I have a baptism of suffering to go through. And I must go through it.

Jesus commanded Peter,“ Put your sword away! Shouldn’t I drink the cup of suffering the Father has given me?”

In the hand of the Lord is a cup. It is full of wine mixed with spices. It is the wine of his anger. He pours it out. All the evil people on earth drink it down to the very last drop.

King Solomon answered his mother,“ Why are you asking me to give Abishag, the Shunammite, to Adonijah? You might as well ask me to give him the whole kingdom! After all, he’s my older brother. And he doesn’t want the kingdom only for himself. He also wants it for Abiathar the priest and for Joab, the son of Zeruiah.”

“ What do you want?” Jesus asked. She said,“ Promise me that one of my two sons may sit at your right hand in your kingdom. Promise that the other one may sit at your left hand.”“ You don’t know what you’re asking for,” Jesus said to them.“ Can you drink the cup of suffering I am going to drink?”“ We can,” they answered.

“ Abba, Father,” he said,“ everything is possible for you. Take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”

He said,“ Father, if you are willing, take this cup of suffering away from me. But do what you want, not what I want.”

In the same way, the Holy Spirit helps us when we are weak. We don’t know what we should pray for. But the Spirit himself prays for us. He prays through groans too deep for words.

Your Lord and King speaks. He is your God. He stands up for his people. He says,“ I have taken from you the cup of my great anger. It made you unsteady on your feet. But you will never drink from that cup again.

He went a little farther. Then he fell with his face to the ground. He prayed,“ My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”

When you do ask for something, you don’t receive it. That’s because you ask for the wrong reason. You want to spend your money on your sinful pleasures.

The Lord is the God of Israel. He said to me,“ Take this cup from my hand. It is filled with the wine of my great anger. Make all the nations to which I send you drink it.

So should you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. I will bring trouble on everyone,” announces the Lord.“ But no matter where you go, I will let you escape with your life.” ’ ”
