This is what the Lord says:“ Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said,‘ We will not walk in it.’ (niv)

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel:“ Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved.For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality.”It is just as Isaiah said previously:“ Unless the Lord Almighty had left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.” (niv)

to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also— not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. (niv)

Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone. (niv)
