以下是十二使徒的名字：首先是西门——也叫彼得，然后是他的弟弟安得烈，西庇太的儿子雅各，雅各的弟弟约翰，

西门——耶稣又称他为彼得，他的弟弟安得烈，又有雅各、约翰、腓力、巴多罗迈、

耶稣从加利利湖边经过，看见西门和他弟弟安得烈，正在湖里撒网；他们本来是渔夫。耶稣就对他们说：“来跟从我！我将要使你们成为得人的渔夫。”他们立刻舍弃渔网，跟从了耶稣。稍往前走，耶稣看见西庇太的儿子雅各和他弟弟约翰。他们正在船上修补渔网。耶稣随即召唤他们。他们就离开了在船上的父亲西庇太和雇工们，并且跟着耶稣去了。

耶稣离开那地方，来到加利利湖边，上了山坐在那里。

有一次，当人群拥挤着耶稣，听神的话语的时候，他正站在革尼撒勒湖边。他看见湖边停着两条船，渔夫们下了船，正在洗网。有一条船是西门的，耶稣上去，请他把船划出去，稍微离岸。耶稣就坐下来，从船上教导众人。讲完了以后，他对西门说：“把船划到水深的地方，下网捕鱼吧。”西门回答说：“老师，我们劳碌了一整夜，什么也没有捕到。不过按照你的话，我就下网吧。”他们这样做了，网住了一大群鱼，渔网几乎要撑破。他们就招呼另一条船上的伙伴来帮忙；他们过来，装满了两条船，甚至两条船都几乎要沉下去了。西门彼得看见，就俯伏在耶稣脚前，说：“主啊，离开我吧，因为我是个罪人！”那时，他和所有与他一起的人，都对这一网捕到的鱼惊讶不已。西门的伙伴，就是西庇太的儿子雅各和约翰，也同样惊讶。耶稣对西门说：“不要怕！从今以后，你将得人了。”他们把两条船靠了岸，舍弃一切跟从了耶稣。

我还告诉你：你是彼得，我要在这磐石上建立我的教会，阴间的门不能胜过它。

这些事以后，耶稣渡过加利利湖，也就是太巴列湖，到对岸去。

雅各生约瑟，就是玛丽亚的丈夫，那称为基督的耶稣是由玛丽亚所生的。这样，从亚伯拉罕到大卫的各世代，一共有十四代；从大卫到被迫迁徙巴比伦的时候，也有十四代；从被迫迁徙巴比伦的时候到基督，又有十四代。耶稣基督的诞生是这样的：耶稣的母亲玛丽亚已经许配给约瑟，在他们成婚以前，玛丽亚就由圣灵怀了孕。

这些事以后，耶稣在太巴列湖边又向门徒们显明了自己。他是这样显明自己的：

他拣选了自己的仆人大卫，从羊圈中把他挑选出来，从所照顾的哺乳母羊当中把他带出来，为要牧养自己的子民雅各，自己的继业以色列。于是大卫就以纯全的心牧养他们，以聪慧的手引导他们。

耶稣离开提尔地区，经过西顿，从德卡波利斯境内又来到加利利湖边。

然而神却拣选了世上愚拙的，为了使那些有智慧的羞愧；神又拣选了世上软弱的，为了使那些强壮的羞愧；神也拣选了世上出身低微的、被人藐视的，就是那些不是什么的，为了要废除那些是个什么的，好使所有的人在神面前都不能自夸，

他的一个门徒，就是西门彼得的弟弟安得烈，对耶稣说：
