那天正是逾越节的预备日，大约在中午十二时，彼拉多对犹太人说：“看啊！你们的王。”

那天是犹太人的预备日，也就是安息日的前一天。傍晚，

因为那天是犹太人的预备日，这座新坟墓也在附近，他们就把耶稣安放在那里。

列国为何咆哮？万民为何枉费心机？世上的君王一同行动，官长聚集商议，要抵挡耶和华和祂所膏立的王。他们说：“让我们挣断他们的锁链，脱去他们的捆索！”坐在天上宝座上的主必笑他们，祂必嘲笑他们。那时，祂必怒斥他们，使他们充满恐惧。祂说：“在我的锡安圣山上，我已立了我的君王。”

当天是预备日，安息日快到了。和耶稣一起从加利利来的妇女跟在约瑟后面，看到了耶稣的坟墓，并且看到祂的遗体被安放好之后，便回家去预备香料和膏油。安息日到了，她们按律法的规定休息了一天。

除酵节的第一天，门徒来问耶稣说：“我们该在什么地方为你准备逾越节的晚餐呢？”

“果然如此，希律和本丢·彼拉多、外族人和以色列人都聚集在这城里，要对抗你膏立的圣子耶稣，然而他们所做的只不过是你凭自己的能力和旨意所预定的。

因为那天是预备日，第二天的安息日是个大日子，为了避免在安息日有尸首留在十字架上，犹太人便求彼拉多叫人打断他们的腿，好把他们搬走。

到了清晨，众祭司长和民间的长老商定要处死耶稣。他们把祂绑起来，押送到总督彼拉多那里。
