Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas,

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.If we let him thus alone, all[ men] will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.And one of them,[ named] Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things?The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and[ so did] another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.

Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed,[ saying],

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew[ it], that they might take him.

Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

And they that had laid hold on Jesus led[ him] away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes,And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.They encourage themselves[ in] an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who shall see them?They search out iniquities; they accomplish a diligent search: both the inward[ thought] of every one[ of them], and the heart,[ is] deep.

And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet.

But I[ was] like a lamb[ or] an ox[ that] is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me,[ saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

Then said they, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them,[ and] to turn away thy wrath from them.

But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
