and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.

Suppose he begins to beat the other slaves. And suppose he eats and drinks with those who drink too much.

This is what the Lord says:“ As for the prophets who lead my people astray, they proclaim‘ peace’ if they have something to eat, but prepare to wage war against anyone who refuses to feed them. (niv)

“ Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. (niv)

You eat the curds, clothe yourselves with the wool and slaughter the choice animals, but you do not take care of the flock. (niv)

not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. (niv)

Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three- pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiledand would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh.But even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing,“ Give the priest some meat to roast; he won’t accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.”If the person said to him,“ Let the fat be burned first, and then take whatever you want,” the servant would answer,“ No, hand it over now; if you don’t, I’ll take it by force.” (niv)

“ Come,” each one cries,“ let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better.” (niv)

In fact, you even put up with anyone who enslaves you or exploits you or takes advantage of you or puts on airs or slaps you in the face. (niv)

Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ (niv)

It was given power to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. (niv)

for they have shed the blood of your holy people and your prophets, and you have given them blood to drink as they deserve.” (niv)

Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. (niv)

They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed— an accursed brood! (niv)

For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. (niv)

Hear the word of the Lord, you who tremble at his word:“ Your own people who hate you, and exclude you because of my name, have said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, that we may see your joy!’ Yet they will be put to shame. (niv)

These people are blemishes at your love feasts, eating with you without the slightest qualm— shepherds who feed only themselves. They are clouds without rain, blown along by the wind; autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted— twice dead. (niv)

They must be silenced, because they are disrupting whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach— and that for the sake of dishonest gain.One of Crete’s own prophets has said it:“ Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” (niv)
