因為你們自己明明知道，主的日子來到會像賊在夜間突然來到一樣。人正說平安穩定的時候，災禍忽然臨到他們，如同陣痛臨到懷胎的婦人一樣，他們絕逃脫不了。弟兄們，你們並不在黑暗裏，那日子不會像賊一樣臨到你們。你們都是光明之子，都是白晝之子；我們不屬黑夜，也不屬幽暗。所以，我們不要沉睡，像別人一樣，總要警醒謹慎。

賊挖洞，若被發現而被打死，打的人沒有流血的罪。若太陽已經出來，打的人就有流血的罪。賊總要賠償，若他一無所有，就要被賣來還他所偷的東西。

因為我丈夫不在家，出門遠行，

但主的日子要像賊一樣來到；那日，天必在轟然一聲中消失，天體都要被烈火熔化，地和地上的萬物都要燒盡。既然這一切都要如此消失，你們處世為人必須聖潔敬虔，
