The Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal on the Sabbath.But Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand,“ Get up and stand in front of everyone.” So he got up and stood there.Then Jesus said to them,“ I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?”He looked around at them all, and then said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” He did so, and his hand was completely restored. The chief priests picked up the coins and said,“ It is against the law to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”So they decided to use the money to buy the potter’s field as a burial place for foreigners.That is why it has been called the Field of Blood to this day. (niv)

They don’t wash their hands before they eat!”Jesus replied,“ And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition?For God said,‘ Honor your father and mother’ and‘ Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is‘ devoted to God,’they are not to‘ honor their father or mother’ with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. (niv)

How can you say to your brother,‘ Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? (niv)

Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. (niv)
