When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,“ Who do people say the Son of Man is?”They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”“ But what about you?” he asked.“ Who do you say I am?”Simon Peter answered,“ You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Jesus replied,“ Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken.

Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.

“ In that day I will restore David’s fallen shelter— I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins— and will rebuild it as it used to be,

Then Isaiah said,“ Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of humans? Will you try the patience of my God also?Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

“ The days are coming,” declares the Lord,“ when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.In his days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which he will be called: The Lord Our Righteous Savior.

Simon Peter answered him,“ Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.”

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christand be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ— the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.I want to know Christ— yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,“ Hosanna to the Son of David!”“ Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”“ Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

In a loud voice they were saying:“ Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:“ To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”The four living creatures said,“ Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out,“ Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David( as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),

When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born.“ In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied,“ for this is what the prophet has written:“‘ But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

Thomas said to him,“ My Lord and my God!”

Then Nathanael declared,“ Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.”

As you come to him, the living Stone— rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him—you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.For in Scripture it says:“ See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,“ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”

Others said,“ He is the Messiah.” Still others asked,“ How can the Messiah come from Galilee?Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”

Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying,“ Truly you are the Son of God.”

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him:‘ I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’“ From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
