維時、羅馬皇奧古斯多詔天下人民咸登版籍；

對曰：『向外人耳。』耶穌曰：『然則子當免焉。

羅馬皇諦伯略在位之十五年、般雀比辣多方撫猶太；希祿治加利利；厥弟斐理伯治意都勒與達各尼利撒尼治亞比里納；

葆樂答曰：『無論於猶太律法、於聖殿、於凱撒、予悉未嘗有所干犯。』

而雅孫納之，是皆違背凱撒之命、而奉耶穌為王者也。』

但吾儕願一聆教言、以吾所聞今之新教、固無在而不受非議也。』

因是亦不可不輸稅；蓋彼既為天主之有司、課稅亦為其所掌也。吾人處世、務求無虧於人；理當向誰納稅則納之；理當向誰輸餉則輸之；理當向誰寅畏則畏之；理當向誰致敬則敬之。

此後比辣多更圖釋之；詎猶太人疾呼曰：『爾釋此人、則不得為凱撒友矣！凡自稱為王者、即與凱撒為敵者也。』比辣多既聞是言、乃攜耶穌出、至一處曰石砌、希伯來語曰伽巴大而升坐定讞焉。是日適值免難節預備日、時在正午。比辣多謂猶大人曰：『睹爾王！』眾乃大呼曰：『去之！去之！釘之於十字架上！』比辣多曰：『吾可釘死爾之王耶？』司祭長應曰：『凱撒而外、吾更無王！』

嗣於報名登冊之際、加利利有猶大者、復起誘民作亂、旋亦云亡、從者星散。
