He went on to tell the people this parable:“ A man planted a vineyard, rented it to some farmers and went away for a long time.At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants so they would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.He sent another servant, but that one also they beat and treated shamefully and sent away empty-handed.He sent still a third, and they wounded him and threw him out.“ Then the owner of the vineyard said,‘ What shall I do? I will send my son, whom I love; perhaps they will respect him.’“ But when the tenants saw him, they talked the matter over.‘ This is the heir,’ they said.‘ Let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.“ What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” When the people heard this, they said,“ God forbid!”Jesus looked directly at them and asked,“ Then what is the meaning of that which is written:“‘ The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. I had planted you like a choice vine of sound and reliable stock. How then did you turn against me into a corrupt, wild vine? (niv)

Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he let out his vineyard to tenants. Each was to bring for its fruit a thousand shekels of silver.But my own vineyard is mine to give; the thousand shekels are for you, Solomon, and two hundred are for those who tend its fruit. (niv)

“ What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said,‘ Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ (niv)

About Levi he said:“ Your Thummim and Urim belong to your faithful servant. You tested him at Massah; you contended with him at the waters of Meribah.He said of his father and mother,‘ I have no regard for them.’ He did not recognize his brothers or acknowledge his own children, but he watched over your word and guarded your covenant.He teaches your precepts to Jacob and your law to Israel. He offers incense before you and whole burnt offerings on your altar. (niv)

“ Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: (niv)

He said:“ A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself appointed king and then to return. (niv)

Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the Lord your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly. (niv)

It’s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. (niv)

Go to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office at that time. Inquire of them and they will give you the verdict.You must act according to the decisions they give you at the place the Lord will choose. Be careful to do everything they instruct you to do.Act according to whatever they teach you and the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right or to the left.Anyone who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the Lord your God is to be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel. (niv)

You transplanted a vine from Egypt; you drove out the nations and planted it.You cleared the ground for it, and it took root and filled the land.The mountains were covered with its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches.Its branches reached as far as the Sea, its shoots as far as the River.Why have you broken down its walls so that all who pass by pick its grapes?Boars from the forest ravage it, and insects from the fields feed on it.Return to us, God Almighty! Look down from heaven and see! Watch over this vine,the root your right hand has planted, the son you have raised up for yourself.Your vine is cut down, it is burned with fire; at your rebuke your people perish. (niv)

And you will know that I have sent you this warning so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the Lord Almighty.“ My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.“ For the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the Lord Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth.But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble; you have violated the covenant with Levi,” says the Lord Almighty.“ So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not followed my ways but have shown partiality in matters of the law.” (niv)

So I took the leading men of your tribes, wise and respected men, and appointed them to have authority over you— as commanders of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties and of tens and as tribal officials.And I charged your judges at that time,“ Hear the disputes between your people and judge fairly, whether the case is between two Israelites or between an Israelite and a foreigner residing among you.Do not show partiality in judging; hear both small and great alike. Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God. Bring me any case too hard for you, and I will hear it.” (niv)

“ The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. (niv)

Micaiah continued,“ Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on his throne with all the multitudes of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left. (niv)

Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land:“ There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. (niv)

“ Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them.To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. (niv)

and say,‘ Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah and people of Jerusalem. This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Listen! I am going to bring a disaster on this place that will make the ears of everyone who hears of it tingle. (niv)
