Jesus replied,“ Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.

He said to them,“ Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.

And this is another thing you do: you cover the Lord’s altar with tears, with weeping and groaning, because He no longer respects your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.Yet you ask,“ For what reason?” Because the Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth. You have acted treacherously against her, though she was your marriage partner and your wife by covenant.

This is what the Lord says: Stand by the roadways and look. Ask about the ancient paths: Which is the way to what is good? Then take it and find rest for yourselves. But they protested,“ We won’t!”

This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.

So Noah, his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives entered the ark because of the waters of the flood.

Jesus answered him,“ Allow it for now, because this is the way for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him to be baptized.

Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the wilderness

They made their hearts like a rock so as not to obey the law or the words that the Lord of Hosts had sent by His Spirit through the earlier prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of Hosts.

But Jesus told them,“ He wrote this command for you because of the hardness of your hearts.

“ If You drive us out,” the demons begged Him,“ send us into the herd of pigs.”

I say the following as a concession, not as a command.
