他們對他說：『我們這裏、除了五個餅兩條魚，甚麼也沒有。』耶穌說：『拿過來這裏給我。』於是吩咐羣眾坐在草地上，就拿這五個餅兩條魚，望着天祝頌，擘開了餅給門徒，門徒又給羣眾。眾人都喫，並且喫飽了；他們把剩下的碎片撿起來，十二個籃子滿滿！喫的人、除了婦女孩子、約有五千。

『這裏有一個孩童有五個大麥餅和兩條小魚；只有這一點兒要給這麼多的人，還算得甚麼？』耶穌說：『叫人坐下！』那地方原有很多草。人就坐下，數目約有五千。於是耶穌拿了餅，祝謝，分給坐着的人；小魚也這樣，隨着他們所願意要的。眾人既喫飽了，耶穌就對門徒說：『把剩下來的碎片兒收集起來，免得有蹧蹋的。』他們便收集起來，將喫的人所剩下來的碎片兒裝滿了十二個籃子。

耶穌對他們說：『你們、給他們喫。』他們說：『若不去為這羣眾民買食物，我們就不過有五個餅兩條魚。』當時約有五千人。耶穌就對門徒說：『叫他們一排一排地坐下，每一排大約有五十個人。』他們就這樣作，叫眾人都坐下。耶穌便拿這五個餅兩條魚，望着天祝頌，擘開，連續地給門徒，去擺在羣眾面前。眾人就喫，並且都喫飽了；那剩下來的碎片兒、撿起來有十二籃子。

耶穌就對他們說：『咳，無知的人哪，對神言人所說的一切話、心遲笨而難信的人哪！基督受這些苦，而進入他的榮耀，豈不是應該的麼？』就開始從摩西、從眾神言人起、把全部經典裏所記關於自己的事、都給他們解釋了。

耶穌說：『連你們到如今還是蒙昧麼？豈不了解，凡入口裏的，運到肚子裏，又被排泄出來到廁所裏去麼？

耶穌問他們說：『你們有多少餅？去看看！』他們知道了，就說：『五個，還有兩條魚。』耶穌就吩咐他們大家、要一組一組地坐在青草地上。他們就一排一排地坐下，有一百的，有五十的。耶穌便拿這五個餅兩條魚，望着天祝頌，擘開了餅，連續地給門徒，去擺在眾人面前；他也把那兩條魚分給他們。眾人都喫，並且喫飽了；他們就把碎片兒撿起來，十二個籃子滿滿的！另外還有碎魚。喫餅的有五千人。

耶穌就對他們說：『連你們也是這樣蒙昧麼？豈不了悟、凡從外面進入人的、並不能使他俗污麼？

凡我所愛的、我就指責管教；所以你要發熱心，要悔改。
