She was also amazed at the food on his tables, the organization of his officials and their splendid clothing, the cup bearers, and the burnt offerings Solomon made at the Temple of the Lord.She exclaimed to the king,“ Everything I heard in my country about your achievements and wisdom is true!I didn’t believe what was said until I arrived here and saw it with my own eyes. In fact, I had not heard the half of it! Your wisdom and prosperity are far beyond what I was told.How happy your people must be! What a privilege for your officials to stand here day after day, listening to your wisdom!Praise the Lord your God, who delights in you and has placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king so you can rule with justice and righteousness.”Then she gave the king a gift of 9,000 pounds of gold, great quantities of spices, and precious jewels. No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,

All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel( which means‘ God is with us’).

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

God gave Solomon very great wisdom and understanding, and knowledge as vast as the sands of the seashore.

I will give you what you asked for! I will give you a wise and understanding heart such as no one else has had or ever will have!

When all Israel heard the king’s decision, the people were in awe of the king, for they saw the wisdom God had given him for rendering justice.

And kings from every nation sent their ambassadors to listen to the wisdom of Solomon.

Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours?”
