“ See, I am going to send My messenger, and he will clear the way before Me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to His temple, the Messenger of the covenant you desire— see, He is coming,” says the Lord of Hosts.

“ I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty.

The Lord who rules over all says,“ I will send my messenger. He will prepare my way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will come to his temple. The messenger of the covenant will come. He is the one you long for.”

“ Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.

“ Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.

“ See, I am going to send my messenger, and he will clear the way before me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to his temple, the Messenger of the covenant you delight in— see, he is coming,” says the LORD of Armies.

“ Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, Will suddenly come to His temple, Even the Messenger of the covenant, In whom you delight. Behold, He is coming,” Says the Lord of hosts.

Behold, I send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom ye desire, behold, he cometh, saith Jehovah of hosts.

“ I am about to send my messenger, who will clear the way before me. Indeed, the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his temple, and the messenger of the covenant, whom you long for, is certainly coming,” says the LORD who rules over all.

“ Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me; and the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, behold, he comes!” says Yahweh of Armies.

Look, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome Day of the Lord comes.

And child, you will be called a prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare His ways,

In all their suffering, He suffered, and the Angel of His Presence saved them. He redeemed them because of His love and compassion; He lifted them up and carried them all the days of the past.

Paul said,“ John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.”

For the lips of a priest should guard knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the Lord of Hosts.

There was a man named John who was sent from God.He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.

As it is written in Isaiah the prophet: Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way.A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make His paths straight!

For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

So the disciples questioned Him,“ Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”“ Elijah is coming and will restore everything,” He replied.“ But I tell you: Elijah has already come, and they didn’t recognize him. On the contrary, they did whatever they pleased to him. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.”Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them about John the Baptist.

This is the one it is written about: Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You; he will prepare Your way before You.“ I assure you: Among those born of women no one greater than John the Baptist has appeared, but the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.This is the one it is written about: Look, I am sending My messenger ahead of You; he will prepare Your way before You.I tell you, among those born of women no one is greater than John, but the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”

When the eight days were completed for His circumcision, He was named Jesus— the name given by the angel before He was conceived.And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were finished, they brought Him up to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord( just as it is written in the law of the Lord: Every firstborn male will be dedicated to the Lord)and to offer a sacrifice( according to what is stated in the law of the Lord: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons).There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him.It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah.Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple complex. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for Him what was customary under the law,Simeon took Him up in his arms, praised God, and said:Now, Master, You can dismiss Your slave in peace, as You promised.For my eyes have seen Your salvation.You have prepared it in the presence of all peoples—a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory to Your people Israel.

Every day He was teaching in the temple complex. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to destroy Him,

“ I am going to send an angel before you to protect you on the way and bring you to the place I have prepared.

Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.

A voice of one crying out: Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert.Every valley will be lifted up, and every mountain and hill will be leveled; the uneven ground will become smooth and the rough places, a plain.And the glory of the Lord will appear, and all humanity together will see it, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

He is the one who was in the congregation in the wilderness together with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors. He received living oracles to give to us.

I will shake all the nations so that the treasures of all the nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,” says the Lord of Hosts.“ The silver and gold belong to Me”— this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.“ The final glory of this house will be greater than the first,” says the Lord of Hosts.“ I will provide peace in this place”— this is the declaration of the Lord of Hosts.

At that very moment, she came up and began to thank God and to speak about Him to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.

You yourselves can testify that I said,‘ I am not the Messiah, but I’ve been sent ahead of Him.’He who has the bride is the groom. But the groom’s friend, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatly at the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine is complete.He must increase, but I must decrease.”

and sent them to the Lord, asking,“ Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?”When the men reached Him, they said,“ John the Baptist sent us to ask You,‘ Are You the One who is to come, or should we look for someone else?’”

After three days, they found Him in the temple complex sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.

He will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God.And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the disobedient to the understanding of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.

He went into all the vicinity of the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make His paths straight!Every valley will be filled, and every mountain and hill will be made low; the crooked will become straight, the rough ways smooth,and everyone will see the salvation of God.

I didn’t know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water told me,‘ The One you see the Spirit descending and resting on— He is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’I have seen and testified that He is the Son of God!”

This is the declaration of the Lord to my Lord:“ Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

In the temple complex He found people selling oxen, sheep, and doves, and He also found the money changers sitting there.After making a whip out of cords, He drove everyone out of the temple complex with their sheep and oxen. He also poured out the money changers’ coins and overturned the tables.He told those who were selling doves,“ Get these things out of here! Stop turning My Father’s house into a marketplace!”

Then he blessed Joseph and said: The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day,the Angel who has redeemed me from all harm— may He bless these boys. And may they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac, and may they grow to be numerous within the land.

In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel, and as an adult he wrestled with God.Jacob struggled with the Angel and prevailed; he wept and sought His favor. He found him at Bethel, and there He spoke with him.Yahweh is the God of Hosts; Yahweh is His name.

Before He came to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.Then as John was completing his life’s work, he said,‘ Who do you think I am? I am not the One. But look! Someone is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on His feet.’

In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Wilderness of Judeaand saying,“ Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near!”For he is the one spoken of through the prophet Isaiah, who said: A voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make His paths straight!

Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.

( John testified concerning Him and exclaimed,“ This was the One of whom I said,‘ The One coming after me has surpassed me, because He existed before me.’”)Indeed, we have all received grace after grace from His fullness,for the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.No one has ever seen God. The One and Only Son— the One who is at the Father’s side— He has revealed Him.This is John’s testimony when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him,“ Who are you?”He did not refuse to answer, but he declared:“ I am not the Messiah.”“ What then?” they asked him.“ Are you Elijah?”“ I am not,” he said.“ Are you the Prophet?”“ No,” he answered.“ Who are you, then?” they asked.“ We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself?”He said,“ I am a voice of one crying out in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord— just as Isaiah the prophet said.”
