Judah has been unfaithful. A detestable thing has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem: Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the Lord loves by marrying women who worship a foreign god.

And Judah has been unfaithful. A hateful thing has been done in Israel and Jerusalem. The Lord loves his temple. But Judah has made it impure. Their men have married women who worship other gods.

Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

Judah has been unfaithful, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. The men of Judah have defiled the Lord’s beloved sanctuary by marrying women who worship idols.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:“ I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”Therefore,“ Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.”And,“ I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (niv)

After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said,“ The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites.They have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, and have mingled the holy race with the peoples around them. And the leaders and officials have led the way in this unfaithfulness.” (niv)

He lends at interest and takes a profit. Will such a man live? He will not! Because he has done all these detestable things, he is to be put to death; his blood will be on his own head. (niv)

Moreover, in those days I saw men of Judah who had married women from Ashdod, Ammon and Moab.Half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod or the language of one of the other peoples, and did not know how to speak the language of Judah.I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I made them take an oath in God’s name and said:“ You are not to give your daughters in marriage to their sons, nor are you to take their daughters in marriage for your sons or for yourselves.Was it not because of marriages like these that Solomon king of Israel sinned? Among the many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel, but even he was led into sin by foreign women.Must we hear now that you too are doing all this terrible wickedness and are being unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women?”One of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite. And I drove him away from me.Remember them, my God, because they defiled the priestly office and the covenant of the priesthood and of the Levites. (niv)

Therefore, do not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters for your sons. Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them at any time, that you may be strong and eat the good things of the land and leave it to your children as an everlasting inheritance.’ (niv)

They did not destroy the peoples as the Lord had commanded them,but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to false gods.They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood.They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves. In you one man commits a detestable offense with his neighbor’s wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law, and another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter. (niv)

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars— they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” (niv)

“ There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty.The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying,‘ Destroy them!’So Israel will live in safety; Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew.Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.” (niv)

“‘ Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled.Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants.But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native- born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things,for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled.And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.“‘ Everyone who does any of these detestable things— such persons must be cut off from their people.Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. King Solomon, however, loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh’s daughter— Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites.They were from nations about which the Lord had told the Israelites,“ You must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their gods.” Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love.He had seven hundred wives of royal birth and three hundred concubines, and his wives led him astray.As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord; he did not follow the Lord completely, as David his father had done.On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods. Israel was holy to the Lord, the firstfruits of his harvest; all who devoured her were held guilty, and disaster overtook them,’” declares the Lord. (niv)

When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. (niv)
