有的人大方地花錢，反而更添財；有的人過度不放手，反致窮乏。慷慨施捨的人必得豐裕；滋潤人的、自己必得滋潤。

有一個人從巴力沙利沙來，帶着首熟大麥作的餅二十個、和新穀子、在旅行袋裏、來送給神人。神人說：『給眾人喫吧。』伺候的人說：『我怎能將這一點點擺在一百人面前呢？』以利沙說：『你只管給眾人喫吧；因為永恆主這麼說：「大家都要喫，並且還要有剩下的。」』

摩西說：『六十萬步行的人民、我在他們中間，而你、你還說：「我須將肉給他們喫一整月工夫」啊！難道羊羣牛羣都給他們宰了、就夠他們喫麼？難道海裏所有的魚都給他們聚攏來、就夠他們喫麼？』永恆主對摩西說：『永恆主的手臂哪裏是短的？現在你要看我的話對你應驗不應驗。』

耶穌對他們說：『他們無需乎去；你們、給他們喫。』他們對他說：『我們這裏、除了五個餅兩條魚，甚麼也沒有。』

耶穌回答他們說：『你們、給他們喫。』他們對他說：『我們要去買二百日工錢的餅，給他們喫麼？』耶穌問他們說：『你們有多少餅？去看看！』他們知道了，就說：『五個，還有兩條魚。』

耶穌舉目，見一大羣人直向他跟前來，就對腓力說：『我們要從哪裏買餅、讓這些人喫呢？』他說這話、是要試試腓力；因為他自己已經知道將要怎麼辦了。腓力回答耶穌說：『二百日工錢的餅讓各人拿一點兒，也是不夠他們喫啊。』門徒中有一個人、西門彼得的兄弟安得烈、就對耶穌說：『這裏有一個孩童有五個大麥餅和兩條小魚；只有這一點兒要給這麼多的人，還算得甚麼？』
