耶穌就和他們同去。離那家不遠，百夫長託幾個朋友去見耶穌，對他說：「主啊，不必勞駕，因你到舍下來，我不敢當。

有一個會堂主管，名叫葉魯，來俯伏在耶穌腳前，求耶穌到他家裏去，因為他有一個獨生女，約十二歲，快要死了。耶穌去的時候，眾人簇擁着他。有一個女人，患了經血不止的病有十二年，在醫生手裏花盡了一生所有的，但沒有人能治好她。

但亞哈斯說：「我不求；我不試探耶和華。」

耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從會堂主管的家裏來，說：「你的女兒死了，何必還勞駕老師呢？」耶穌不理會他們所說的話，就對會堂主管說：「不要怕，只要信！」於是他帶着彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰同去，不許別人跟着他。他們來到會堂主管的家裏，耶穌看到一片吵鬧，並有人大聲哭泣哀號，就進到裏面，對他們說：「為甚麼大吵大哭呢？孩子不是死了，是睡着了。」他們就嘲笑耶穌。耶穌把他們都趕出去，帶着孩子的父母和跟隨的人進了孩子所在的地方，就拉着孩子的手，對她說：「大利大，古米！」翻出來就是說：「女孩，我吩咐你，起來！」那女孩子立刻起來走動－她已經十二歲了；他們就非常驚奇。耶穌切切地囑咐他們，不要讓人知道這事，又吩咐給她東西吃。

耶穌到了會堂主管的家裏，看見吹鼓手和亂哄哄的一羣人，就說：「退去吧！這女孩不是死了，而是睡着了。」他們就嘲笑他。眾人被趕出後，耶穌就進去，拉着她的手，女孩就起來了。於是這消息傳遍了那地方。

那人在裏面回答：『不要打擾我，門已經關了，孩子們也同我在床上了，我不能起來給你。』
