蓋耶穌命邪魔脫離其人也。而魔之屢憑此人、由來已久；雖繫以鐵索、械以桎梏、輒自折斷而為魔逐至曠野。

For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.

This was because Jesus had commanded the evil spirit to come out of the man. Many times the spirit had taken hold of him. The man’s hands and feet were chained, and he was kept under guard. But he had broken his chains. And then the demon had forced him to go out into lonely places in the countryside.

For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man.( For many a time it had seized him. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and shackles, but he would break the bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.)

For Jesus had already commanded the evil spirit to come out of him. This spirit had often taken control of the man. Even when he was placed under guard and put in chains and shackles, he simply broke them and rushed out into the wilderness, completely under the demon’s power.

甚至有人從保羅身上拿手巾或圍裙放在病人身上，病就退了，惡鬼也出去了。那時，有幾個遊行各處、念咒趕鬼的猶太人，向那被惡鬼附的人擅自稱主耶穌的名，說：「我奉保羅所傳的耶穌勅令你們出來！」做這事的，有猶太祭司長士基瓦的七個兒子。惡鬼回答他們說：「耶穌我認識，保羅我也知道。你們卻是誰呢？」惡鬼所附的人就跳在他們身上，勝了其中二人，制伏他們，叫他們赤着身子受了傷，從那房子裏逃出去了。

他被鬼抓住就忽然喊叫；鬼又叫他抽瘋，口中流沫，並且重重地傷害他，難以離開他。

他們就帶了他來。他一見耶穌，鬼便叫他重重地抽瘋，倒在地上，翻來覆去，口中流沫。耶穌問他父親說：「他得這病有多少日子呢？」回答說：「從小的時候。鬼屢次把他扔在火裏、水裏，要滅他。你若能做甚麼，求你憐憫我們，幫助我們。」耶穌對他說：「你若能信，在信的人，凡事都能。」孩子的父親立時喊着說：「我信！但我信不足，求主幫助。」耶穌看見眾人都跑上來，就斥責那污鬼，說：「你這聾啞的鬼，我吩咐你從他裏頭出來，再不要進去！」那鬼喊叫，使孩子大大地抽了一陣瘋，就出來了。孩子好像死了一般，以致眾人多半說：「他是死了。」

正來的時候，鬼把他摔倒，叫他重重地抽瘋。耶穌就斥責那污鬼，把孩子治好了，交給他父親。

是因耶穌曾吩咐他說：「污鬼啊，從這人身上出來吧！」

用溫柔勸戒那抵擋的人；或者神給他們悔改的心，可以明白真道，叫他們這已經被魔鬼任意擄去的，可以醒悟，脫離他的網羅。

那人常住在墳塋裏，沒有人能捆住他，就是用鐵鍊也不能；因為人屢次用腳鐐和鐵鍊捆鎖他，鐵鍊竟被他掙斷了，腳鐐也被他弄碎了；總沒有人能制伏他。他晝夜常在墳塋裏和山中喊叫，又用石頭砍自己。
