後來有世上的憂慮、錢財的迷惑，和別樣的私慾進來，把道擠住了，結不出果實。

有的落在荊棘裏，荊棘跟它一同生長，把它擠住了。

「一個人不能服侍兩個主；他不是恨這個愛那個，就是重這個輕那個。你們不能又服侍神，又服侍瑪門。」「所以，我告訴你們，不要為你們的生命憂慮吃甚麼喝甚麼，或為你們的身體憂慮穿甚麼。生命不勝於飲食嗎？身體不勝於衣裳嗎？

於是，耶穌用比喻說：「有一個人在葡萄園裏栽了一棵無花果樹。他前來在樹上找果子，卻找不到，就對園丁說：『看哪，我這三年來到這棵無花果樹前找果子，竟找不到。把它砍了吧，何必白佔土地呢？』園丁回答：『主啊，今年且留着，等我在樹周圍掘開土，加上肥料，以後若結果子便罷，不然再把它砍了。』」

人若不常在我裏面，就像枝子被丟在外面，枯乾了，人撿起來，扔進火裏燒了。
