胡為視爾兄弟目中有草芥、而不覺己目中有梁木乎、

兄弟目中有草芥、爾見之、而己目中有梁木、不自覺何歟、

爾兄弟目中有草芥、爾見之、而己目中有梁木不自覺、何也、

爾何察察於兄弟目中之纖芥、而獨昧然於己目中之巨木乎？

“ Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?

“ You look at the bit of sawdust in your friend’s eye. But you pay no attention to the piece of wood in your own eye.

Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

“ Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye?

Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye?

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

“ Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the log in your own eye?

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to see the beam of wood in your own?

Why do you see the speck of chaff that is in your brother’s eye, but don’t consider the beam that is in your own eye?

They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said,“ All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”

You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like.

You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.

“ And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?How can you think of saying to your friend,‘ Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

But Joab did not include the tribes of Levi and Benjamin in the census because he was so distressed at what the king had made him do.

“ The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?

They will live because they thought it over and decided to turn from their sins. Such people will not die.

Well then, if you teach others, why don’t you teach yourself? You tell others not to steal, but do you steal?You say it is wrong to commit adultery, but do you commit adultery? You condemn idolatry, but do you use items stolen from pagan temples?You are so proud of knowing the law, but you dishonor God by breaking it.No wonder the Scriptures say,“ The Gentiles blaspheme the name of God because of you.”

The Lord will repay him for the murders of two men who were more righteous and better than he. For my father knew nothing about the deaths of Abner son of Ner, commander of the army of Israel, and of Amasa son of Jether, commander of the army of Judah.

And Joab replied,“ Believe me, I don’t want to devour or destroy your town!That’s not my purpose. In their blind conceit, they cannot see how wicked they really are.

“ How are you, my cousin?” Joab said and took him by the beard with his right hand as though to kiss him.Amasa didn’t notice the dagger in his left hand, and Joab stabbed him in the stomach with it so that his insides gushed out onto the ground. Joab did not need to strike again, and Amasa soon died. Joab and his brother Abishai left him lying there and continued after Sheba.
