随后，耶稣被圣灵领到旷野去，受魔鬼的试探。耶稣禁食了四十昼夜，后来就饿了。那试探者前来对他说：“你如果是神的儿子，就吩咐这些石头变成食物吧！”耶稣回答说：“经上记着：‘人活着不是单靠食物，而是靠神口里所出的每一句话。’”接着，魔鬼带他到圣城，让他站在圣殿的顶端，对他说：“你如果是神的儿子，就跳下去吧！因为经上记着：‘他会为你吩咐他的天使；他们会用手托住你，免得你的脚撞在石头上。’”耶稣对他说：“经上又记着：‘不可试探主——你的神。’”接着，魔鬼带耶稣上了一座很高的山，给他看世界万国和万国的荣耀，对他说：“你如果俯伏拜我，我就把这一切都给你。”耶稣对他说：“撒旦，退去！因为经上记着：‘要敬拜主——你的神，唯独事奉他。’”于是，魔鬼离开了耶稣。看哪，有天使们前来伺候他。

“主的灵在我身上，因为他膏立我去向贫穷的人传福音，他差派我去宣告：被掳的得释放，瞎眼的得看见，让受欺压的得自由，

圣灵立刻催促耶稣到旷野里去。他在旷野里四十天，受撒旦的试探。他与野兽在一起，并有天使们伺候他。

耶稣带着圣灵的能力回到加利利，他的消息传遍了周围所有的地区。

主耶和华的灵在我身上，因为耶和华膏抹我，要我传好消息给卑微的人；他派遣我去治愈心灵破碎的人，去宣告被掳的得自由、被囚的得释放，

他受了圣灵的感动，来到圣殿。这时候，耶稣的父母抱着孩子进来，要按照律法的规矩为他办事。

耶和华的灵必停留在那一位身上，就是智慧和悟性的灵，谋略和大能的灵，知识和敬畏耶和华的灵。他以敬畏耶和华为乐，审断不凭眼见，裁决不凭耳闻。他必以公义审断贫弱者，以正直裁决世上的卑微人；以口中的杖击打世界，以嘴里的气杀死恶人。

神所差派的那一位，就说神的话语，因为神不靠着量度赐下圣灵。

他们从水里上来的时候，主的灵把腓利提走，太监再也看不见他了。太监继续赶路，满心快乐。

耶稣受了洗，一从水里上来，看哪，诸天就为他开了，他看见神的灵好像鸽子降下，临到他身上。

有一次，当民众都来受洗的时候，耶稣也受了洗。他正在祷告，天开了，圣灵好像鸽子，有形有体地降临在他身上，并且有声音从天上传来，说：“你是我的爱子，我喜悦你。”

他就来到约旦河周围所有的地区宣讲为罪得赦免而悔改的洗礼。

一直到他藉着圣灵吩咐了他所拣选的使徒们之后，被接升天的那一天为止。

约翰又见证说：“我看到圣灵好像鸽子从天上降临，停留在他身上。
