Is it not to break your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?Then your light will break out like the dawn, And your recovery will spring up quickly; And your righteousness will go before you; The glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; You will cry for help, and He will say,‘ Here I am.’ If you remove the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger and speaking wickedness,And if you offer yourself to the hungry And satisfy the need of the afflicted, Then your light will rise in darkness, And your gloom will become like midday.And the Lord will continually guide you, And satisfy your desire in scorched places, And give strength to your bones; And you will be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.

But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?

Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,

Now when Jesus heard this, He said to him,“ One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Therefore, O king, may my advice be pleasing to you: wipe away your sin by doing righteousness, and your wrongdoings by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity.’

If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food,and one of you says to them,“ Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that?In the same way, faith also, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.But someone may well say,“ You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.But are you willing to acknowledge, you foolish person, that faith without works is useless?Was our father Abraham not justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar?You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;and the Scripture was fulfilled which says,“ And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called a friend of God.You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.In the same way, was Rahab the prostitute not justified by works also when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

And he looked at him intently and became terrified, and said,“ What is it, lord?” And he said to him,“ Your prayers and charitable gifts have ascended as a memorial offering before God.

a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, and made many charitable contributions to the Jewish people and prayed to God continually.

But Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord,“ Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I am giving to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone, I am giving back four times as much.”

Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

But give that which is within as a charitable gift, and then all things are clean for you.

For some were assuming, since Judas kept the money box, that Jesus was saying to him,“ Buy the things we need for the feast”; or else, that he was to give something to the poor.

For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave voluntarily,begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints,and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God.So we urged Titus that as he had previously made a beginning, so he would also complete in you this gracious work as well.But just as you excel in everything, in faith, speaking, knowledge, and in all earnestness and in the love we inspired in you, see that you also excel in this gracious work.I am not saying this as a command, but as proving, through the earnestness of others, the sincerity of your love as well.For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.I give my opinion in this matter, for this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin a year ago not only to do this, but also to desire to do it.But now finish doing it also, so that just as there was the willingness to desire it, so there may be also the completion of it by your ability.For if the willingness is present, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.For this is not for the relief of others and for your hardship, but by way of equality—at this present time your abundance will serve as assistance for their need, so that their abundance also may serve as assistance for your need, so that there may be equality;

For this perfume could have been sold for over three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor.” And they were scolding her.But Jesus said,“ Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed for Me.For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me.She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial.

And the King will answer and say to them,‘ Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of Mine, you did it for Me.’

and he* said,‘ Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your charitable gifts have been remembered before God.

For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, by having served and by still serving the saints.
