Now Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

So Joseph went also. He went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea. That is where Bethlehem, the town of David, was. Joseph went there because he belonged to the family line of David.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,

And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee.

Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

Now the Lord said to Samuel,“ How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, because I have chosen a king for Myself among his sons.”

Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee named Nazareth,to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the descendants of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read.

Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers,“ May the Lord be with you.” And they said to him,“ May the Lord bless you.”

Then Saul said to him,“ Whose son are you, young man?” And David answered,“ I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

So they both went on until they came to Bethlehem. And when they had come to Bethlehem, all the city was stirred because of them, and the women said,“ Is this Naomi?”

So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).

And the neighbor women gave him a name, saying,“ A son has been born to Naomi!” So they named him Obed. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David.

Now as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died, to my sorrow, in the land of Canaan on the journey, when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath. I buried her there on the way to Ephrath( that is, Bethlehem).”

If your father misses me at all, then say,‘ David earnestly requested leave of me to run to Bethlehem, his city, because it is the yearly sacrifice there for the whole family.’

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying,“ Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born.They said to him,“ In Bethlehem of Judea; for this is what has been written by the prophet:‘ And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, Are by no means least among the leaders of Judah; For from you will come forth a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’ ”

So Samuel did what the Lord told him, and he came to Bethlehem. Then the elders of the city came trembling to meet him and said,“ Do you come in peace?”

Nathanael said to him,“ Can anything good be from Nazareth?” Philip* said to him,“ Come and see.”

And all the people who were in the court, and the elders, said,“ We are witnesses. May the Lord make the woman who is coming into your home like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built the house of Israel; and may you achieve wealth in Ephrathah and become famous in Bethlehem.

Now David was the son of the Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, the man whose name was Jesse, and he had eight sons. And Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years among men.

and Salmon fathered Boaz, and Boaz fathered Obed,and Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.
