爱父母胜过爱我的，不配作我的门徒；爱儿女胜过爱我的，不配作我的门徒。

爱惜自己性命的，就丧失性命；那恨恶自己在这世上的性命的，要保全性命到永生。

不但如此，我已把万事当作是有损的，因我以认识我主基督耶稣为至宝。我为他已经丢弃万事，看作粪土，为要赢得基督，

我却不以性命为念，只要走完我的路程，完成我从主耶稣所领受的职分，为上帝恩典的福音作见证。

除你以外，在天上我有谁呢？除你以外，在地上我也没有所爱慕的。我的肉体和我的心肠衰残；但上帝是我心里的力量，又是我的福分，直到永远。

弟兄胜过那条龙是因羔羊的血，和因自己所见证的道。虽然至于死，他们也不惜自己的性命。

“你的同胞兄弟，或是你的儿女，或是你怀中的妻，或是如同自己性命的朋友，若暗中引诱你，说：‘我们去事奉别神吧。’那是你和你列祖所不认识的，你四围列国的神明，无论是离你近或离你远，从地这边到地那边，你都不可附和他，也不要听从他。你的眼不可顾惜他，不可怜悯他，也不可袒护他。

关于自己的父母，他说：我未曾关注。他的弟兄，他不承认，他的儿女，他也不认识，因为利未人遵行你的话，谨守你的约。

于是我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所发生的事我都以为烦恼，全是虚空，全是捕风。我恨恶一切的劳碌，就是我在日光之下所劳碌的，因为我所得的必须留给我以后的人。那人是智慧是愚昧，谁能知道呢？他竟要掌管我在日光之下用智慧劳碌所得的。这也是虚空。

雅各也与拉结同房，并且爱拉结胜过爱利亚，于是他又服事了拉班七年。耶和华见利亚失宠，就使她生育，拉结却不生育。

甚至我宁可窒息死亡，胜似留我这副骨头。我厌弃生命，不愿永远活着。你任凭我吧，因我的日子都是虚空。

耶和华说：“我曾爱你们。”你们却说：“你在何事上爱我们呢？”耶和华说：“以扫不是雅各的哥哥吗？我却爱雅各，恶以扫，使他的山岭荒凉，把他的地业交给旷野的野狗。”

正如经上所记：“雅各是我所爱的；以扫是我所恶的。”

“人若有两个妻子，一个是他宠爱的，另一个是失宠的，她们都给他生了儿子，但长子是他失宠妻子生的；
