“那爱父亲或母亲过于爱我的，不配属于我；那爱儿子或女儿过于爱我的，不配属于我；

爱惜自己生命的，就失去生命；在这世上恨恶自己生命的，将保全生命到永生。

不但如此，我甚至把一切都看做是损失，因为我把认识我主基督耶稣看为是至高无上的。我为基督耶稣损失了一切，而且把一切都看做是粪土，为要赢得基督，

但是我不把自己的生命看为宝贵，为要跑尽我该跑的路程，完成从主耶稣所领受的服事工作，为神恩典的福音郑重地做见证。

除你以外，在天上我还有谁呢？除你以外，在地上我也没有所喜悦的。我的肉体和我的心都在衰竭，但神是我心里的力量，是我继业的份，直到永远。

他们藉着羔羊的血，藉着自己所见证的话语而胜过了它，他们至死也没有爱惜自己的生命。

于是我恨恶生命，因为在日光之下所做的事，对我都是悲苦。是的，全是虚空，全是捕风！我恨恶自己一切的劳苦，就是我在日光之下的劳碌所为，因为我必把劳苦所得留给在我之后来的人。那人是智慧是愚笨，谁知道呢？他却要掌管我劳苦所得的一切，就是我在日光之下用智慧得来的。这也是虚空！

雅各也与瑞秋同房，并且爱瑞秋胜过爱莉亚。他又服事了拉班另外七年。耶和华见莉亚被嫌弃，就使她能生育；瑞秋却不能生育。

耶和华说：“我爱了你们。”你们竟然问：“你是怎么爱我们的呢？”耶和华宣告：“以扫难道不是雅各的哥哥吗？我却爱雅各，恨以扫；我使以扫的山地变得荒凉，把他的继业给旷野的豺狗。”

正如经上所记：“我爱雅各，却恨以扫。”
