Now in those days John the Baptist* came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said,“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”Now John himself had a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.At that time Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the region around the Jordan;and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them,“ You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance;and do not assume that you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you that God is able, from these stones, to raise up children for Abraham.And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.

Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their wrongdoings against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.He made Him who knew no sin to be sin in our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—

Peter said to them,“ Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.“ Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken from Samuel and his successors onward, have also announced these days.It is you who are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant which God ordained with your fathers, saying to Abraham,‘ And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’God raised up His Servant for you first, and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways.”

Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying,“ If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

“ Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of this salvation has been sent.

Now He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and the power to heal diseases.And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.And He said to them,“ Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics.And whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city.And as for all who do not receive you, when you leave that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

Now after this the Lord appointed seventy two others, and sent them in pairs ahead of Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come.And He was saying to them,“ The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore plead with the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.Go; behold, I am sending you out like lambs in the midst of wolves.Carry no money belt, no bag, no sandals, and greet no one along the way.And whatever house you enter, first say,‘ Peace be to this house.’And if a man of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him; but if not, it will return to you.Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they provide; for the laborer is deserving of his wages. Do not move from house to house.Whatever city you enter and they receive you, eat what is served to you;and heal those in it who are sick, and say to them,‘ The kingdom of God has come near to you.’But whatever city you enter and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,‘ Even the dust of your city which clings to our feet we wipe off in protest against you; yet be sure of this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’I say to you, it will be more tolerable on that day for Sodom than for that city.

as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!Every ravine will be filled, And every mountain and hill will be lowered; The crooked will become straight, And the rough roads smooth;And all flesh will see the salvation of God!’ ”
