耶穌出來，照習慣往橄欖山去；門徒也跟着他。到了那地方，他就對他們說：『你們要禱告，使你們不進入試誘。』就抽身離開他們，約有扔塊石頭那麼遠，跪下禱告說，『父啊，你若願意，就把這杯撤去，然而不要我的意思得成，只要你的意思得成。』有一位天使從天上向耶穌顯現，增加他的力量。耶穌在劇烈的精神掙扎中，禱告越迫切；他的汗珠就像大血點滴落在地上。他從禱告中起來，走到門徒那裏，見他們因憂愁而睡着了，

但你們呢、親愛的，你們要在你們至聖的信仰上建立自己，依聖靈而禱告，

永恆主啊，困苦人的心願你早已聽見；他們心中的悲歎你必側耳以聽，

耶穌正獨自禱告的時候，門徒也同他在一起；耶穌就詰問他們說：『羣眾說我是誰？』

當這些日子、耶穌出去到上山禱告，整夜禱告上帝。

照樣，聖靈也在我們的軟弱中幫助我們。我們不曉得要怎樣照所應該禱告的來禱告，聖靈卻親自用說不出來的歎息來代替懇求。那探索透人心的、曉得聖靈的意念是甚麼，因為聖靈照上帝的旨意、替聖徒懇求着。

說了這些話以後、約有八天，耶穌帶着彼得約翰雅各上山去禱告。

永恆主、我的磐石、贖回我的主啊，願我口中所說的、心裏所思想的、在你面前蒙悅納。

你們貪慾而無所有，你們就殺人；你們切求而不能得，你們就鬥毆爭戰。你們得不着，因為你們不求。你們求而無所得，因為你們妄求，要浪費在你們的宴樂中。

基督在他肉身的日子、既用壯烈的哭號和眼淚、向那能救他脫死的獻祈求和懇請，就因了虔敬而蒙垂聽；
