耶穌還在對群眾講話的時候，他的母親和弟弟站在外面，要找他講話。有人告訴耶穌：“你的母親和弟弟站在外面，有話要跟你說。”他回答那人：“誰是我的母親？誰是我的弟兄？”他伸手指著門徒說：“你看，我的母親，我的弟兄！凡是遵行我天父旨意的，就是我的弟兄、姊妹和母親了。”

利未人論到自己的父母說：‘我沒有看顧他們’；他不承認自己的兄弟，也不認識自己的兒女；因為他們謹守你的話，持守你的約。
